Is Your Back Hunching Over in Johnson City?

blog fielden sciatica pain

Many people in Johnson City find that their back is hunching over.  A good study just out from the British Geriatric Journal regarding increasing middle back curvatures (slumping or forward inclination of the middle back, i.e. being hunched over )in the 60 and older population.

This common postural change as we age is well documented and has potentially life altering effects. Not only is this population with increasing thoracic curvatures at a higher risk for falling and fracturing bones a few studies show they also have a higher rate of all cause mortality (I.e dying from any cause). Several theories exist for this such as reduction in overall lung volume due to lessening of the lung cavity space and reduction of normal straight-line blood flow in the large vessels of the body due to postural distortions. The good news is that with chiropractic treatment and posture specific exercises thoracic curvatures can be improved greatly!
